Santos Productions, together with Dennis Santos and Chiqui Fava are pleased to announce that the official Manchester United Legends Team will be coming to Gibraltar on Monday 27th September 2010 for a charity game. This is a very exciting project for all involved and follows the enormous success of the Liverpool Legends and England Legends matches held in previous years. The Red Devils will be facing our Rock XI, a selection of local veteran players at the Victoria Stadium, kicking-off at 7:15pm. The aim of this event is to raise awareness and as much money as possible for two local charities, namely, Research Into Childhood Cancer (RICC) and The Gibraltar Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support Group.
Although full line-ups will be confirmed in the next couple of weeks we can expect players of the calibre of Andy Cole, Lee Sharpe and Frank Stapleton to feature for the United Legends.
The Liverpool and England Legends Matches raised nearly £45,000 for charity so the aim is to raise another substantial amount of money for these worthy causes. “RICC is extremely grateful to be associated with the Legends and all their hard work to raise money for worthwhile causes. In this case, we are fortunate enough to be one of the beneficiaries and are sure that any money raised will assist us in our aim to find a cure to childhood cancers and improve treatment applications whilst supporting families through this torrid time. Many thanks to all involved, players, sponsors and volunteers alike but in particular we would like to extend a special thanks to Chiqui Fava and Dennis Santos without whose unrelenting endeavour this would never have occurred” commented Craig Sacarello of RICC. David Hoare, Chairman of The Gibraltar Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support Group told us “As we struggle to remember who we are, we are grateful that you remember us and for us. Remember us for whom we are and as you want us to be remembered. We are still the same person. Thank you for your compassion, concern and support. You are as special as those whom you serve”.
Considering the magnitude of having these sporting heroes as our guests, the actual promotion and planning of the event has been outsourced to Santos Productions, headed by the very capable hands of Christian Santos, so we can be sure to expect more than just a football match.
The organisers count with the invaluable assistance of the Ministry for Sport and the Gibraltar Sports and Leisure Authority together with a whole host of local enterprises who will be sponsoring individual players. The organisers are truly grateful for their support, without which this event could not take place.
This will no doubt be a not-to-be-missed event and will provide a highlight of the local sporting calendar. It promises to be an evening of high excitement for the enjoyment of young and old alike. Tickets will go on sale as from Monday 13th September 2010 at Sacarello’s Newsagents in Main Street and will be priced at £12 for the Main Stand and £10 for the Old Stand.
